Golan v. Ashcroft
Works in the public domain can be freely copied and performed, and many small businesses rely on trade in these works. But two recent amendments to the federal Copyright Act threaten those businesses. Our clients are challenging the constitutionality of the Sonny Bono Copyright Term Extension Act, which increases copyright protection by 20 years, and Section 514 of the Uruguay Round Agreements Act, which extends copyright protection to many foreign works. In this pro bono effort, WTK has partnered with the Stanford Law School Center for Internet and Society.
