Julian  Ellis, Jr.
 

Julian Ellis represents sophisticated clients in complex commercial litigation at the trial and appellate levels. Prior to joining WTO, Julian served as a law clerk to The Honorable Timothy M. Tymkovich, Chief Judge of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, and was a litigation associate at a full-service law firm in Denver.

Before pursuing a degree in law, Julian worked for five years in the financial services industry. He worked for both private businesses and large financial institutions, primarily concentrating on publicly traded entities. Julian’s background gives him a unique business perspective and guides how he advises corporate clients in litigation.

In addition to practice, Julian is active in the international commercial arbitration moot community. He assists with coaching the University of Denver’s international commercial arbitration team, which competes in Singapore, Hong Kong, Brussels, Budapest, Paris, and Vienna. Julian also actively writes on the intersection of arbitration and insolvency laws.

Julian Ellis has developed significant experience in a short time handling class actions and commercial disputes. Prior to entering law, Julian worked for five years in the financial services industry. He has a keen appreciation for the pressures companies face and the varying considerations that inform client priorities. Julian reflects this awareness in his approach to dispute resolution.

  • Armstrong Steel Corp. v. Beavers (Colo. Dist. Ct. 2018) - Won (as solo-chair) a trial verdict as plaintiff in a breach of contract action. The court ordered the defendant to pay damages plus attorneys' fees and costs.
  • Solo-chaired an arbitration in Florida resulting in zero liability assigned to our client, a manufacturer of aerial lift and boom equipment, in a multimillion-dollar product liability case.
  • Won a multimillion-dollar arbitration award for an energy company, recovering more than 15 times the last settlement offer made before trial.
  • Represented an AmLaw 100 firm in a professional liability lawsuit involving claims of malpractice, breach of fiduciary duty, and other business torts. The plaintiffs claimed in excess of $20 million in damages. The matter resolved favorably days before trial.
  • Represented several state funds (including Colorado) in recovering millions related to underground storage tank litigation.
