Matthew Johnson focuses his practice on complex commercial and business litigation with an emphasis on the oil and gas industry. He has handled lawsuits in the energy sector and in general commercial litigation that involve breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duties/securities issues, overriding royalty interest rights, oil and gas lease disputes, joint venture operating agreements, mergers and acquisitions, patent infringement, and FINRA arbitrations on behalf of investors.
In over 10 years of practice, Matt has developed extensive trial and arbitration experience handling oil and gas and general commercial cases across the nation. He has appeared in state court, federal court, or arbitration forums in 10 states. These include trials in Cook County, Illinois; Delaware Chancery Court; federal courts in Wyoming and Colorado; Denver District Court; and various AAA arbitrations in Texas and Ohio.
Matt also serves as Colorado counsel in various intellectual property disputes, and he has experience navigating the District of Colorado’s Local Patent Rules.
