Successfully represented an oil company in sweeping class action litigation arising from a deadly 2013 train derailment in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec.
WTO attorneys successfully represented a privately held oil company following a catastrophic train derailment and explosion in the heart of downtown Lac-Mégantic, Quebec. The WTO team negotiated with U.S. and Canadian trustees of the bankrupt railroad companies that operated the train and coordinated the litigation matters in several courts in the U.S. and Canada to achieve a favorable resolution for our client. After the litigations were resolved, WTO represented its client in two coverage actions against its insurers and recovered the vast majority of the client’s contribution to the global settlement fund.
