WTO wins Ninth Circuit reversal and new trial on punitive damages phase of product liability case involving Ford

White v. Ford, 500 F.3d 963 (9th Cir. 2007)
Date: 01.01.07

WTO represented Ford Motor Co. in a retrial of a product liability case originally tried by another firm, which had resulted in a nine-figure judgment. The first jury's compensatory damages award was affirmed on appeal. WTO stepped in only on the amount of punitive damages, convincing the second jury to award only one-third of the initial amount. Following retrial, WTO persuaded the Ninth Circuit to overturn the district court's reduced award of punitive damages, which led to a favorable settlement for Ford.
