Ramirez has developed vast experience in class actions, product liability, toxic torts, government investigations, and complex commercial matters, including international trials and arbitrations. He spent the past 10 years in senior litigation roles for two of the world’s best-known companies: Kimberly-Clark and Whirlpool.
Major International Litigation
Juan's career highlights include:
- Oversaw and managed Kimberly-Clark’s worldwide defense of flushable wipes products against class actions and governmental litigations;
- Managed and implemented Kimberly-Clark’s winning defense strategy in a trial in Australia when that country took the unprecedented step of attempting to ban an entire category of consumer products; and
- Managed and negotiated the largest supplier recovery action in Whirlpool’s history, obtaining cash and future indemnity protection well into nine figures.
At Kimberly-Clark, Ramirez most recently served as the top litigator for the North American business. He previously led major international litigation and government investigations for the company. At Whirlpool, Ramirez managed North American class actions, business, and asbestos litigation. He also supervised Whirlpool litigation in China, Hong Kong, India, and Australia.
“Juan understands the intense everyday pressures on his clients,” said WTO Co-Managing Partner Mike Williams. “He knows how to engage the other side to resolve disputes creatively and effectively with the highest regard for budgets, predictability, and critical business priorities. We jumped at the opportunity to add Juan’s talent, experience, and excellent judgment to WTO’s client service teams.”
Firm Chair Mike O’Donnell added, “WTO is already a client-first firm. Juan’s state-of-the-art in-house knowledge will help WTO provide even better creativity, efficiency, and results for sophisticated clients.”
"What Sounds Challenging? What Sounds Fun?"
Ramirez joins WTO to represent clients in class actions, commercial litigation, government investigations, and product liability litigation and trials. “I’ve reached a point in my career where I can say, ‘What sounds challenging? What sounds fun?’ The answer is simple: trial work," said Ramirez. "From there all roads lead to WTO. The opportunities here are exhilarating.”
In addition to North America, Australia, and Asia, Ramirez has successfully managed litigation in Latin America and the Middle East. Before working in house, Ramirez served in the litigation department of Michael Best & Friedrich, an AmLaw 200 firm. He earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2002 and served as a judicial extern to Justice Ann Walsh Bradley of the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
