WTO Receives "Litigator of the Week" Shout-Out from The American Lawyer

Date: 02.21.25

Congratulations to WTO client Adolfo Cambiaso—an Argentine horse polo star—on the Southern District of Florida ordering the return of his cloned horses. The result earned WTO’s Habib Nasrullah, Miles Orton, and Will Sowers recognition in the Shout-Outs section of “Litigators of the Week” from The American Lawyer’s Litigation Daily.

The order follows the WTO team winning a plaintiff’s jury verdict for Cambiaso and his company, La Dolfina, last year in a dispute over the breeding and cloning of polo horses.

"For Adolfo Cambiaso and his family, this is an important decision coming after a four-year multijurisdictional court battle. These horses are priceless and the family is committed to the process of recovering their cloned horses and preserving this part of the legacy Adolfo built for his children. As counsel for Adolfo and La Dolfina, we are pleased with the court's decision and eager to see the horses returned to Adolfo and his family," Habib said in a press statement.

Dr. Diego Bucking of Peisajovich & Bucking of Buenos Aires, Argentina, personal counsel to Adolfo Cambiaso, added, “This case represents an important development in horse cloning, and the Cambiaso family is delighted with the outcome.”

The dispute that led to the WTO team winning a trial verdict in Judge Aileen Cannon’s courtroom in May 2024 involved Cambiaso’s horse, Dolfina Cuartetera, regarded as the greatest animal in polo history. Dolfina’s clones have dominated the sport, and 60 Minutes has called Cambiaso “the Tom Brady of horse polo.” The suit claimed that Cambiaso’s business partner, Alan Meeker, sold clones of Cuartetera to a competitor polo team without Cambiaso’s knowledge after a decade-long business relationship. The claims included breach of contract and trade secret violations.

The opposing team argued that Meeker acted within his agreement with Cambiaso. WTO showwed that the defendant secretly sold the cloned horses by striking a deal with a Russian businessman on his yacht in the Bahamas. Three clones were sold for $800,000 each, with more to be sold later.

The jury returned a complete verdict for WTO’s clients.
